If you are installing this software under Windows NT4.0 or Windows 2000 BETA, you must be logged on as an Administrator. You must have at least 2MB of disk space to install this product. 1.1 Standard Installation Run Setup.exe from the floppy diskette to install Key Commander software. 1.2 Uninstall Program Key Commander can be removed from Windows 95, 98 , NT4.0, and Windows 2000 BETA by clicking the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel, select "Logitech Key Commander", and click the Remove button. 1.3 Strange errors during installation on dual boot system If your computer can boot both Windows 95/98, NT4.0, or Windows 2000 BETA, you must install Key Commander on each platform and in separate directories. 1.4 Web Update This feature allows you to check for new releases available on the Web and update your current version. To activate, double click on Key Commander icon in the taskbar, click on "Help" menu, select "Check Web For Update", and follow the prompts. 2. Using the WWW button to launch your browser The WWW button will launch the default browser. If you have both Netscape and Internet Explorer, the WWW button will launch whichever is currently set as the default. To change defaults, launch the browser via the Start menu and select it as the default. 2.1 LED does not light when WWW button is pressed in NT4.0 The LED is not supported under NT4.0. Supporting the keyboard light/LED in NT 4.0 can create incompatibilities with mice and thus is not supported on this platform. As a side effect, the user will see messages in the Event Viewer program similar to: "The ISR has detected an internal state error in the driver for \Device\KeyboardPort0" because the built-in keyboard driver does not support fully the Logitech keyboards. 2.2 Event Viewer errors in NT4.0 each time the WWW key is pressed. Please see 2.1. 2.3 Keystroke missed after WWW key is pressed. Please install the Key Commander software. 3. Web Buttons 3.1 Strange characters appear when pressing the Web Buttons In some windows, like "Find" and "History", and MS-DOS windows, the Web buttons can send unwanted keystrokes. 3.2 Print key does not work in Netscape Make sure there is a default printer. Netscape will not allow any printing unless a default printer is set. 3.3 Scroll button does not work This will occur on Web pages with frames. Select the frame in which you want to scroll by clicking inside it with the mouse. 3.4 Web Buttons stop working in Netscape when accessing some Web pages There is an issue with Netscape and Java scripts which disable some keyboard commands. Disable Java and JavaScript by clicking on Edit, Preferences, Advanced, and remove the checkmark from Enable Java and Enable JavaScript. 3.5 Stop Button does not respond in Internet Explorer 3.0 This is a problem with Internet Explorer 3.0. Upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.0 3.6 Support for AOL 4.0 Browser If you have a Logitech Internet Keyboard, The Web Buttons work with the AOL 4.0 Browser. You do have to manually launch it since pressing the "WWW" key will launch your default browser (Explorer or Netscape) 4. Keyboard Operation 4.1 Keyboard appears to have slowed response This can be caused by the Send to Back button on a few systems. Open Keyboard Properties from the Control Panel, move the slider left to a slower rate, and click Apply. Now move the slider back to the original fast position and click Apply again. This will reset it back to the original speed. 4.2 Keys pressed do not match the characters onscreen This can occur on some systems when the Send to Back button is pressed. To change the keyboard back to normal, press the Send to Back button again. If this does not work, restart Windows. Should the problem persist, contact Customer Support. 4.3 Volume keys may control the wrong sound card if multiple sound cards are installed. On startup, Key Commander determines which sound card is the preferred playback device specified in the Windows Multimedia Properties. The Volume keys control the volume of this sound card. If you make a new sound card active, close Key Commander by right clicking on the taskbar icon and selecting quit, then restart Key Commander via the Start menu.
